Dear Parents;
Herzlich
Willkommen in der 1. Klasse!
The
series that we have are using in 1st grade is Mimi, die Lesemaus, which covers the first four months of 1st
grade in Germany. Each student has a Fibel (reader) and an
Arbeitsheft (workbook) from this series.
The reader is to be returned at the end of the year, the workbook will
be written in and is the student’s to keep. We will all so be using a second text and
workbook, Bärenspaβ 1. That text will
also be returned at the end of the school year. In addition, there is another workbook with
supplemental material. It will take us
all year to finish this material, and will give the students a good base in
German reading and writing. Each student
has been provided with a folder for notes and papers. Please check this folder each week for note
and communications.
Please
be sure that your child brings a backpack to school each week, along with his
or her books and folder. Each child is
also asked to bring pencils, erasers and colored pencils if possible. I always have extras in case anyone
forgets. I will provide the paper if we
do any writing outside of the workbooks.
During
the week, please take some time to review the work that was done in class the
week before and make sure that any homework is done. We will also have some simple “Quizchen” at
various times, which will be based on prior weeks’ work.
It
is my plan to e-mail all parents each week with what has been covered in class
and the homework that was assigned.
Should your child miss class, you will have the information you need to
keep him or her caught up. Homework
assignments and important announcements will also be posted on the 1st

Please
feel free to call me if you should have any questions regarding homework or
class work. If you need to pick up your
child early, please let me know at the start of class so that I can have
homework, etc. ready to take home. If
your child misses class, please feel free to e-mail or call me for the
assignment. Please however, do not call
on Friday evenings, as I have rehearsal with the Kindergruppe twice a month or
am out to dinner.
